St. David’s Day parade at the Juboraj

On Saturday March 1st the National St. David’s Parade took place in Cardiff. The parade has been growing for many years and this year saw one of the largest ever. As it was a Saturday the streets were packed with even more onlookers than usual enjoying the carnival atmosphere as choirs, singers, traditional Welsh folk musicians, giant figures, community and youth groups and dancing dragons marched through the city centre. The parade started at the City Hall in the civic centre and finished in the Castle where lots of fantastic Welsh entertainment was put on for those who followed the parade into the castle free of charge. After this the various artists and musicians made their way into the bars and pubs of Cardiff to continue the celebrations.


The Juboraj in Mill Lane have been hosting VIPs and musicians for the St. David’s Day Parade for a number of years now with what’s become the Annual St. David’s Day Curry. Serving up Chicken and Leek Korma, Welsh Beef and potato curry and Welsh Lamb Biryani to David Petersen, founder of the parade, Steve Fletcher and his crew from SWICA Carnival, Frank Hennessy, singer and radio presenter and Robin Huw Bowen, world famous harpist.


Babru Miah, after a quick lesson on the harp from Robin, said, “Having been part of the Cardiff Restaurant scene for over 25 years now, we’re keen to help promote community events so it’s fantastic for us to be able to sponsor the St. David’s Day Parade like this.”


Robin went on to entertain the guests at Mill Lane long after the rest of the party had left. We’re looking forward to next years parade!
